My name is Leigh, and I’m a mountain nerd in Truckee, CA.
I enjoy taking apart, rebuilding, using, and learning about the following fun things:
Network Engineering (design + implementation)
Network hardware (firewall – AP)
Radios (data links, mesh, ARS, GMRS)
Electronics (with the tiniest of fasteners)
Computers (and the silly systems they run)
…and other related contraptions.
…I also hate all of the above things and would rather be outside hiking, but bending tech to my will and solving the problems they create can be fun too.
A few words on myself, as described by myself…
I’ve been a nerd my whole life, and not in the ways you might think. I began as a book nerd. Books teach you things, it’s wild. My family taught me things too- working on cars, woodwork, electronics, building… things. Fixing… things. Nerding out on… everything. My high-school tech and media program was invaluable too – that darn near changed my life (shout out to THUNDERPAW, and shame on you Colfax High for discontinuing it). Many of the programs and systems I am familiar with began in those early days. I even considered obtaining a “higher” education in computer science, but that felt weird to study stuff I was already familiar with. I went into humanities and Literature instead, because I always loved books. I even aspired to get into the film industry, but after living and studying in the Southern most portions of California, I decided that wasn’t it. I needed my Sierra mountains back.
So here we are. Scrapping in the mountains, figuring it out, pretending to be a pioneer, and living in that fresher air.
